Analysing and comparing contents pages

Analysing Contents Pages
In todays lesson we looked at four different magazine contents pages and analysed them in detail. We looked at mixmag, We Love Pop, Q and NME.
Two of the covers were very similar Q and NME, this is because they are both targeted at similar audiences as they are targeting the fans of similar music, because they listen to similar music it suggests their other interests are similar too. Therefor the two magazines will be in competition with each other to attract the same audience. Both the contents pages use 3 main colours, Red, white and black. These colours are a bit masculine and  commonly used in rock/metal music. So they set the tone of the magazine that relates to the target audience.

The other two contents pages are not as similar. We Love Pop targets more pop music and mixmag targets more dance music. We Love Pop uses more pink, feminine colours to target a younger audience whereas mixmag uses more sophisticated colours and pictures. Such as there are fewer pictures but they’re larger and in We Love Pop has lots of small pictures and they are not as organised and set out like posters for a more childish feel. Also the images in mixmag are better quality because the slightly older audience may notice image quality more than the younger audience.

  1. Thanks for this Arran. How has analysing these contents pages made you consider your own contents page?
